Mr. Harrison is a tax attorney and accountant with extensive corporate tax department experience in US federal and international tax research and planning, M&A, international tax compliance, and tax controversy resolution. His experience is in the financial services and manufacturing industries.
Mr. Harrison was a tax attorney with HSBC, formerly Household International Inc., for over 30 years. He was Senior VP – Tax Counsel for HSBC. During this period, he provided technical tax support to HSBC’s US businesses regarding M&A, US international tax and IRS appeals matters. He was HSBC’s tax advisor on numerous M&A transactions. Seven of the M&A transactions Mr. Harrison worked on as tax advisor each had a sales price in excess of $1 billion. He also developed tax planning strategies for the company, and managed US international tax compliance for HSBC’s US operations.
Some highlights of his career include structuring tax-free acquisitions of numerous companies. This allowed HSBC to acquire the companies on favorable terms due to tax-free treatment to the selling shareholders. He negotiated a very favorable settlement for HSBC of an IRS appeals dispute, which resulted in a large refund to the company. Mr. Harrison also spent three years at HSBC’s London UK headquarters, where he developed world-wide tax planning strategies for the company.
Jack Harrison has been a member of Tax Executives Institute (TEI). He was co-chair of the Chicago Chapter TEI International Tax Committee, and published articles in The Tax Executive, which is TEI’s professional journal. Mr. Harrison has a CPA certificate, and holds Bachelors in Accounting, MBA and JD degrees from DePaul University in Chicago. He was a licensed attorney throughout his career.
