Paul Howell

M&A; Expert and Accountant

Mr. Howell is a Certified Public Accountant and income tax expert focused on merger and acquisitions, tax structuring and planning.

Mr. Howell is owner of PMH Consulting assisting companies with acquisitions and divestures strategy development and execution. He is a retired partner from Grant Thornton, LLP where he spent 18 years as a tax partner and the Central Region M&A Tax Leader. At Grant Thornton, Paul structured acquisition and divesture transactions ranging from millions to billions of dollars and facilitated companies with trouble debt workouts, both inside and outside of bankruptcy.  He has deep experience with subprime debt originators in the payday loans, buy-here-pay-here auto sales, pawn retailers and rent-to-own industries.

Prior joining Grant Thornton, Paul was a tax partner at KPMG and Vice President of Taxes for Furmanite (NYSE listed company).  At these companies, Mr. Howell led complex due diligence projects focused on federal, state and international tax considerations and risks. Paul also has assisted companies with SEC documents filings for initial public offerings, public debt issuances and acquisition approvals.

Paul is a published author and is the co-author of Bloomberg BNA Accounting Policy & Practice Portfolio 5001, Accounting for Income Taxes: Fundamental Principles and Special Topics, which is a leading treatise on accounting and tax issues.  He has represented clients as a M&A tax expert providing expert written opinions and testimony in arbitrations and court proceedings for acquisition and transaction contractual disputes.

Paul is a member of the AICPA and Texas Society of CPAs. He received a BBA from Stephen F Austin State University and an MPA-Tax from the University of Texas at Arlington.
